So the "root of the kick" in this article is the non-kicking leg?

To do a high kick, most people look at the foot in mid-air. It seems so obvious that to increase the height of the kick, one must train the foot in mid-air. Dynamic stretches are performed and while this does help a great deal, the root problem is not addressed. Standing on one leg while a partner stretches/holds onto the mid-air leg are performed help a little but still... Finally someone noticed the sleight of foot trick and points out the base foot that needs training.

I know because I've always tried the mid-air foot training approach and never had satisfactory progress. I then I trained the base foot and presto, progress was made. Congratulations to the fellow who finally noticed the magic trick of kicking.
